Follow-up to #2574 and f95f1ab18, which guarded the archive path. The
delete path had the same two defects and worse consequences.
`useSessionUIStore.deleteSession`/`deleteSessions` declared an `options`
parameter and discarded it on both paths, so a caller-supplied runtime
key was a silent no-op. `SessionDialogs.tsx:416` already passes options
today and they never reach the action.
The delete path also never rechecked the runtime. Session IDs are not
unique across runtimes, so a response produced by a previous runtime
could commit `finalizeConfirmedSessionDeletion` against the runtime the
user switched to: evicting an unrelated session from the live and global
stores and calling `cleanupPersistedSessionState`, which erases queued
messages, todos, folder membership, inline-comment drafts, chat draft,
and pins. That is user data loss, not stale cache.
`cleanupPersistedSessionState` already rejects an identity whose runtime
is no longer active, but `finalizeConfirmedSessionDeletion` defeated that
check by passing the live `getRuntimeKey()` at commit time, comparing a
value with itself. It now forwards the captured key.
Adopt the default-on shape from f95f1ab18: `expectedRuntimeKey` defaults
to the active runtime in `deleteSession`, `deleteSessionInDirectory` and
the new canonical `deleteSessions` action, and is rechecked before the
request and before every reconciliation. A `404` still means "already
deleted" and commits cleanup, but only while the captured runtime is
active; after a switch it describes the wrong runtime and the action
reports failure instead of committing.
Also documents the throw contract of `patchSessionMetadata`, a
non-blocking nit raised by the review bot on #2574.
The tablet ran the phone layout with a half-finished iPad draft on top: two
custom sidebars, a leftover overflow menu, split Files/Changes header buttons,
and phone-width sheets stretched across a 13" screen. This brings it onto the
phone's navigation model and keeps only the differences a large screen earns.
- Sessions are a persistent resizable left sidebar; the overflow menu is gone
and its destinations moved into that sidebar's footer (connected instance,
settings, pending web update) and into the workspace drawer.
- The workspace (Changes / Files / Terminal / Notes / MCP) is the phone's
drawer everywhere: a resizable right sidebar where the screen can host one
(up to 900px) and the full-cover drawer otherwise, with its mounted panes —
an open diff, an edited file, an attached terminal — surviving rotation.
- Header dropdowns are anchored popovers: the recents switcher mirrors the
usage overlay on the left, and its trigger is sized to the title rather than
to the free width.
- App-level pages (settings, instances, update, an opened plan) render as
centered dialogs instead of covering the screen.
- Overlays center on the chat column through published insets, so the model
and directory pickers no longer sit off-centre; the directory picker also
stops overriding the shared width clamp.
- Wide chat layout applies to mobile surfaces, where a tablet chat column is
finally wide enough for the setting to mean anything.
The layout gate is a live size class rather than a device check, so Android
tablets and foldables are covered by the same code:
- `enabled` when the shortest viewport side is at le

device question — a phone reports ~360-430 whichev

`useSessionUIStore.archiveSessions` declared an `options` parameter and
discarded it, so any caller passing a captured runtime key got a silent
no-op. The archive path also never rechecked the runtime, letting a
response produced by a previous runtime reconcile the live and global
session stores of the runtime the user had switched to.
Move the batch to a canonical `archiveSessions()` action, add an optional
`expectedRuntimeKey` to `archiveSession()`, `patchSessionMetadata()`, and
`cleanupReviewMetadataBeforeDelete()`, and recheck that key before every
store reconciliation. A guarded batch stops at the first observed runtime
change: server-confirmed sessions stay in `archivedIds` and every
unconfirmed ID is returned in `failedIds`, so existing partial-failure
feedback stays truthful. Callers that pass no key keep prior behavior.
Type the store option as `ArchiveSessionsOptions` instead of
`Record<string, unknown>`, since the loose type allowed the drop.
Navigation model rebuilt around two full-width drawers and a minimal
header (sessions / title-switcher / usage ring / workspace):
- Left sessions drawer: cross-project tree with live status indicators,
swipe actions on sessions (rename/archive/delete) and on group headers
(project edit / two-step close, worktree delete), reorder-only edit
mode with collapsible project cards and draggable worktrees, app-level
footer (connected instance, settings, pending web update).
- Right workspace drawer: Changes / Files / Terminal / Notes / MCP as
pill tabs (inactive tabs icon-only); panes stay mounted once visited.
The full desktop file editor serves the Files tab; read/skill tool taps
in chat open the file there at the requested line.
- Header session switcher on title tap: 10 cross-project recents with
live busy/attention indicators and project · branch metadata; the
usage ring opens a metadata overlay with an explicit loading state.
- The overflow menu is gone on phones (its destinations moved into the
drawers); iPad keeps it until its dedicated layout pass.
Correctness and continuity:
- /auth/session answers bearer-first, so a stale WebView cookie can no
longer mask a revoked device token; cold launches classify failures
fast and land on an explicit connect screen.
- Authoritative session snapshots raise frozen ordering baselines and
stale live ranks — recents stay truthful after the app slept.
- Cold launches reopen the last active session per instance (persisted
pointer, confirmed against a sessions snapshot; a user-opened draft
clears it), with a logo hold instead of a draft flash.
Also: collapsed pill composer gains the stop control; chat tool rows
share one 36px rhythm; Task subtool rows truncate; larger bottom safe
area so the composer clears big-screen corner radii; Capacitor build
hides About/Update (store updates apply there); widgets link to the
sessions drawer with a list icon; MobileApp split into focused modules;
five mobile-surface detectors unified; translucent borders normalized to
70%; all new strings translated across the 10 locales.
iPad and foldable layouts are intentionally untouched - separate next version PR.
Route live VS Code permission requests directly to directory-scoped permission replies instead of blocking on the refresh-only state preflight.
When auto-accept is enabled after prompts are already visible, reply to the authoritative local requests first, then reconcile and deduplicate the server pending list. Keep state verification for reconnect and refresh flows so stale resolved requests are not resurrected.
Add regression coverage for live events, existing prompts, directory routing, retry behavior, stale reconciliation, and network failures.
Add a dedicated desktop header menu for the active session while keeping recent-session switching available when the sidebar is closed. Match inline rename behavior with the sidebar and expose rename, copy ID, share, export, archive, and delete actions with localized feedback.
Automatically copy newly created share links, keep share/unshare state synchronized across live and global stores, and normalize stale upstream unshare responses so the UI immediately reflects successful unsharing.
Require Markdown exports to load every available message page before formatting the conversation. Abort incomplete root exports, retain explicit child-session skip warnings, and guard complete-history pagination against failures and cursor cycles.
* perf: optimize session loading and startup
* fix(chat): stabilize history prepend virtualization
* perf: unblock first session open from startup network contention
Opening the first session after app start waited seconds for its message
fetch. Three independent contributors, each measured via CDP network
capture and Chromium net-log against the packaged desktop app:
- The active-session watchdog fired an uncapped per-directory status poll
and child-session discovery burst at startup, and other subsystems
(git checks, global session pages, command/skill discovery) fanned out
alongside it, saturating the browser's ~6 HTTP/1.1 sockets per origin.
Add a shared background-network gate (concurrency 3) and route the
watchdog, poll-shaped git reads (also priority: low), global session
pages, command/skill loads, and the background update check through it.
- The packaged renderer is cross-origin to the loopback backend, so every
API call needs a CORS preflight; a few slow OpenCode-proxied requests
held the whole pool while preflights and interactive traffic queued
behind them. Lift Chromium's per-host connection cap for loopback via
ignore-connections-limit in the Electron shell.
- OpenCode initializes each directory lazily on its first request, so the
first click paid that cost interactively. Warm the last-used directory
and the three most recently opened projects right after OpenCode
readiness, sequentially and best-effort, overlapping UI startup.
Validation: new background-network tests, lifecycle warmup test, focused
store/sync tests, UI type-check and lint, dead-code report, node --check
plus electron type-check/lint, and CDP first-open measurements on the
packaged app (message fetch socket queue 5.4s -> 0.03s).
* fix(ui): keep interactive git reads out of background queue

Closes#1958
Session lists now promote a conversation when it starts working and again when it settles, instead of reacting to every streaming timestamp update. This keeps ordering responsive without bringing back the sidebar churn removed by the recent performance work.
Apply the same user-visible order across Recent, project and worktree groups, session switchers, mobile navigation, widgets, the command palette, and the desktop tray. Preserve pinned priority, freeze timestamp fallback ordering, and keep child-session activity scoped to siblings under the same parent so it never moves the root conversation.
Seed reconnect snapshots without synthetic jumps, clear ephemeral ranks on deletion and runtime changes, and cover lifecycle transitions, mixed root/child trees, metadata-only updates, and project-group ordering with regression tests.
Compare normalized attachment MIME types with the selected model's declared input modalities and show a non-blocking warning for incompatible files.
Recheck newly added attachments, restored drafts, async metadata, and existing files after model changes while avoiding warnings when capability metadata is unavailable. Summarize affected filenames and localize the warning across every supported locale.
Add focused modality compatibility coverage, document the composer behavior, and keep model metadata subscriptions stable to prevent startup render loops.
Users can now attach Microsoft Office documents (.docx, .pptx, and .xlsx) and OpenDocument files (.odt, .odp, and .ods) from the shared web, desktop, mobile, and VS Code chat surfaces.
Document text is extracted locally and sent as a text/plain file part with the original filename, keeping the visible user message clean. Supported embedded PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images are sent as separate image parts, with matching [filename] citations preserved near their source paragraph, slide object, spreadsheet cell anchor, or OpenDocument position. Presentation notes, spreadsheet values, headers, and footers are included where available.
Document expansion is metadata-validated and bounded against oversized entries, excessive uncompressed data, unsafe paths, invalid image signatures, attachment-name races, and dangling citations after truncation. Generated document parts are published to the composer atomically.
Add fflate for worker-backed ZIP extraction and narrowly allow blob workers in the VS Code webview CSP without permitting blob scripts. Include focused fixtures for every supported format, extraction limits, positional citations, collision recovery, atomic attachment state, and CSP behavior.
Add picker and MIME support for more source-code, diff, notebook, structured-log, SVG, and Draw.io formats.
Convert Jupyter notebooks into readable text while omitting binary outputs, and sanitize HAR credentials, cookies, sensitive query parameters, and request/response bodies before files enter chat state.
Convert HEIC and HEIF images to JPEG up front, centralize attachment preparation in a focused module, and cover the new validation and transformation behavior with regression tests.

Add a root-session action that creates a generated worktree from the session directory's current branch, transfers uncommitted changes, and moves the parent session plus its descendants through OpenCode's control-plane API.
Reuse existing project/worktree topology and quick-create behavior, keep the UI non-blocking, reconcile live and global session state across directories, and roll back partial moves and failed worktree creation safely.
Split worktree bootstrap readiness into directory-created, git-ready, and setup-ready phases across web and VS Code. Session moves wait for Git readiness while existing setup-aware flows continue waiting for full setup completion, and worktree removal is serialized with active bootstrap tasks.
Expose the move only for idle root sessions, show localized progress and explanatory tooltips in the sidebar, and keep pending/ready worktree metadata synchronized with authoritative session attachments to avoid stale setup indicators.
Add coverage for control-plane payloads, session-state migration, bootstrap phase ordering and compatibility, removal races, progress metadata, and fast-ready attachment races.
* fix(sessions): route new sessions to the correct project when server omits directory
createSession() passed the server response's `directory` field to
setCurrentSession as `directoryHint`. When the server response omitted
the field (a common path), `directoryHint` was `null` and
setCurrentSession fell back to `opencodeClient.getDirectory()`, which
could still hold a stale directory from a different project.
That fallback caused:
- #1637: clicking `+` on one project while browsing another created
a session grouped under the wrong project.
- #2270: in a parent Git repo with multiple child projects (some
without their own Git), sessions from a child with its own Git were
grouped under a sibling child without Git.
Capture the effective directory passed to the SDK and reuse it as the
fallback for the server response. This guarantees `setCurrentSession`
and `registerSessionDirectory` always see the directory the user
explicitly selected for the new session.
Add regression tests covering both reported topologies and the
no-override / no-server-directory preservation path.
* fix(sessions): prefer registered project paths

Add a VS Code-specific foreground permission responder while preserving the server-owned implementation for web, desktop, and mobile runtimes.
Persist the authoritative VS Code policy in extension global state and expose matching GET/PUT bridge routes. Broadcast policy updates to the sidebar, session editor panels, and agent manager so every active webview observes the same explicit per-session policy.
Resolve missing child-session lineage through OpenCode, honor nearest explicit ancestor overrides, deduplicate concurrent requests, retry transient replies, and reconcile pending permissions after enablement, bootstrap, and reconnect. Treat resolved requests as handled and route notification suppression through the same responder outcome.
Keep post-toggle reconciliation failures non-fatal after policy persistence and fail closed when lineage or replies cannot be confirmed. Document that auto-accept intentionally cannot run while every OpenChamber webview is closed or suspended.
Keep the new-session draft open until the backend confirms that the session was created successfully. This prevents a failed request from closing the draft and discarding the user's creation context.
Restore the exact submitted composer text after a new-session send failure and persist it as the draft. Only restore when the composer is still empty or unchanged, so text entered while the request is pending is not overwritten.
Add regression coverage that simulates an offline session creation request and verifies that the draft remains open with its title intact.
Add pin and unpin actions for user and assistant text messages, with clear compaction-survival labels, localized tooltips, status-info active styling, and VS Code gating where the server runtime is unavailable.
Persist pinned message IDs, creation timestamps, and roles under the OpenChamber session metadata namespace using fresh-read merge updates so goal, review, and other metadata remain intact.
Introduce a server runtime that reacts to OpenCode's dedicated session.compacted event, fetches pinned messages by ID, extracts and chronologically orders their text parts, and injects them as hidden synthetic context through prompt_async. The restoration prompt tells the agent to use the context silently while work remains and limits idle summaries to one short paragraph.
Track the last handled compaction summary to avoid replay duplication, tolerate individually missing pinned messages, integrate runtime shutdown, document ownership and limitations, and cover metadata round trips plus compaction injection behavior with focused tests.
* feat(chat): prompt navigator list preview with prompt filtering
The hover preview is now an interactive scrolling mini-list of prompts:
rows render as bordered two-line cards, the highlighted row stays inside
a center dead zone and the list glides only near the window edges, wheel
steps the highlight, and the panel stays open when the pointer moves into
it so a click can be corrected inside the list.
Rail entries are filtered to real prompts: previews are built from
normalized user display parts (synthetic context stripped), fully
synthetic user messages are excluded, and shell-mode messages show their
extracted command via the shared shell bridge helpers.
* fix(chat): render shell command status transitions
The injected /shell text part carries live state in shellAction, which
the render-relevant part comparator ignored — a running→completed update
reached the store but never re-rendered the message row until the next
send. Compare shellAction command/output/status for text parts.
* fix(sync): stream shell bridge part updates while running
Streaming suspension keeps part updates out of the static message records
while an assistant message streams, relying on the live streaming-tail
path to render it. Shell-mode bridge messages are hidden from the
timeline and rendered inside the user row, so they have no live path —
suspension froze their output chunks and left the card without a Show
output action until the run finished. Exempt shell bridges (single bash
tool part parented to a synthetic shell-marker user message) from
suspension; their updates arrive at command-output pace, not delta pace.
* feat(chat): syntax-highlight shell command card
Render the shell-mode command and its output through the shared
WorkerHighlightedCode (Shiki) with bash grammar, matching the bash tool
part presentation, instead of plain pre blocks.
Replace repeated project-by-session directory matching across sidebar hooks with a shared ownership index that resolves each unique directory once and exposes direct project and folder-scope buckets.
Gate destructive folder reconciliation on authoritative session data and topology readiness, preserve last-known worktrees after discovery failures, and retain nested-project, VS Code, active/archive dedupe, and Windows drive-root semantics.
Narrow cross-directory subscriptions to session and status slices so streaming deltas no longer trigger global aggregation. Reuse a cached session ID index for permission lineage checks instead of rebuilding it on every session switch.
On the reported 15-project, 67-worktree, 14,561-session shape, ownership indexing averages 3.81 ms versus roughly 450 ms for the cache-only hotfix.
Validation: 28 targeted tests, UI type-check, UI lint, and dead-code analysis.
* fix(chat): rework prompt navigator rail into sliding tape with hover preview
- Pin the active indicator to the target during programmatic scrolls so the
scroll spy's intermediate reports don't drag it backwards mid-animation
- Replace the visibility-ratio active-turn picker with a stable reading-line
rule (last turn whose top is above the line), dropping IntersectionObserver
- Replace the list panel with a Codex-style gutter: the whole strip is one
hover/click target mapped to the nearest tick, with a per-prompt preview
card that follows the cursor
- Cap the rail at a fixed window of ticks; hovering the edges carousels
through the rest, with gradient masks hinting at more content
- Render ticks as a tape that glides to keep the active prompt centered,
remounting on history prepend to avoid spurious slide animations
- Keep load-earlier as a compact button aligned over the tick column
* fix(chat): shrink navigator gutter when message column sits under it
On narrow windows the centered message column extends under the rail's
full-width invisible hover zone, which swallowed clicks on the right edge
of user bubbles — including the expand/collapse control. Measure the
column against the gutter and switch to a narrow hit zone when they
overlap.
* fix(sync): stop runaway history auto-load on sessions with empty assistant messages
An assistant message fetched with zero parts (e.g. a run aborted before any
output) was stored as absence — indistinguishable from parts that were never
fetched. getSessionMaterializationStatus therefore reported the session as
never renderable, so the ensure-renderable effects (ChatContainer,
ModelControls) retried syncSession forever; each retry refetched the whole
grown window and fired another background prepend, progressively loading the
entire history of large sessions on open.
Commit an explicit empty [] snapshot for assistant messages so fetched-empty
counts as renderable, while non-assistant messages keep the absent
representation and its no-op commit behavior.
Reproduced and verified headless against a real 857-message session: before,
20 message fetches escalating to limit=857; after, one initial page and a
single progressive-mount prepend.
* fix(ui,server): normalize Windows drive letter casing for consistent path resolution
Provider settings were failing to persist for specific projects on Windows
because path normalization was inconsistent across the codebase. Some
normalizePath functions uppercased the Windows drive letter (c:\ -> C:\)
and others did not, causing:
- directoryScoped cache misses (different keys for the same directory)
- broken model selection in the affected project
- lost conversation history (sessions could not match their project)
- false cache hits in resolveConfigDirectory on undefined inputs
This change extracts a single shared normalizePath utility and uses it
from the 5 client sites that were missing the drive letter normalization.
The server-side normalizePathForPersistence is updated to uppercase the
drive letter both before and after safeRealpathSync, so the persisted
path is consistent even when realpath returns a symlink/junction with
a lowercase drive letter on some Windows environments.
Fixes#2109
* test(ui,server): add coverage for Windows path normalization
Address review feedback on #2154:
- Add Windows-platform test for normalizePathForPersistence covering
drive letter uppercase on input and after realpath resolution
- Add dedicated test suite for the shared normalizePath utility
- Defensive fix: normalizePath now returns null for paths that consist
only of slashes (\\, ///), matching the documented contract

Move per-session permission auto-accept policy ownership from the UI to the
OpenChamber server so enabled sessions continue running when clients disconnect
or the server restarts.
- persist explicit per-session policies in OpenChamber settings
- inherit the nearest explicit policy across subagent session hierarchies
- allow child sessions to opt out of an inherited parent policy
- immediately accept matching global and directory-scoped pending requests
- process future requests without requiring a connected UI client
- reconcile pending permissions after startup and event-stream reconnects
- deduplicate concurrent requests and retry transient reply failures
- synchronize policy updates across connected clients
- migrate existing browser-persisted policies to server storage
- suppress auto-accepted permission cards before they enter UI state
- show deduplicated permission toasts for inactive sessions
- preserve foreground-only permission handling in VS Code
- integrate directory-aware notification routing from main
- add coverage for persistence, inheritance, retries, reconciliation, pending
requests, client hydration, and inactive-session toasts
Arm the target button in the composer and the next prompt becomes a goal:
the server keeps the session working toward it (idle tick -> small-model
audit -> continuation) until the objective is verifiably complete, blocked,
or out of budget — even with the UI closed.
Server (packages/web/server/lib/session-goal):
- event-driven loop on the global SSE hub; goal state lives in
session.metadata.openchamber.goal (merge-safe patches, stale-write guard
by goal id), so it survives restarts and syncs to every client for free
- the small-model audit (objective + last assistant turn only, language
pinned to the objective) is the sole termination authority; blocked needs
3 consecutive verdicts, audit outages tolerate one unaudited continuation
then stop the goal as resumable-blocked
- hard stops: optional token budget, auto-continuation cap (Resume grants a
fresh allowance), turn errors; user abort pauses the goal instead of
blocking it, and resuming over an aborted tail nudges immediately
- token accounting as a snapshot of the latest turn (input + cache.read +
output), goal-relative via a creation baseline and segmented across
compactions; a compaction summary skips the audit and continues
- continuations reuse the session's own provider/model/agent/variant
UI:
- three-mode target button (arm / disarm / manage dialog), informational
goal strip with inline pause/resume and an Evaluating indicator, sidebar
state glyph, objective length counter (2000-char server clamp),
read-only completed goals
- goal entry points: composer (sessions and drafts), start-new-session-
from-answer dialog, plan implement dialog (plan content becomes the
objective), scheduled tasks (Run as goal + budget)
- Settings -> Chat -> Goal: feature toggle + default token budget with
three-layer parity (web server, client persistence, VS Code bridge);
VS Code renders goal state but hides the entry points (the loop runs in
the web server only)
Notifications: per-turn "ready" notifications are suppressed while a goal
is active; settling sends one final notification (desktop, web-push, APNs
generic titles with the session name as body) honoring the completion
toggle. Error/question/permission notifications are untouched.
Docs: user guide (session-goals) in all 9 locales + sidebar entry,
scheduled-tasks cross-reference, server module DOCUMENTATION.md.
* docs: add SDK v1.17.12 migration plan — phase 4 (session.permission)
* feat(permissions): verify pending permission before auto-accept via SDK v1.17.12
Adds createPermission() and fetchPermission() wrappers on OpencodeService
for the new v2.session.permission endpoints (OpenCode SDK 1.17.12).
fetchPermission() is used by the auto-accept sweep in
resyncBlockingRequestsForDirectory to verify a permission is still
pending before replying. The auto-accept flow now skips permissions
that are already resolved, returning a null from fetchPermission()
rather than blindly calling respondToPermission on a stale entry.
createPermission() is exposed for future programmatic permission
creation; the V1 list/reply path used by the UI is unchanged.
The plan doc at plans/opencode-v1.17.12-sdk/ was rebased onto
origin/main in the prior commit to keep the PR diff focused on
this change.
Closes#1972
* fix(permissions): drop confirmed-resolved permissions from auto-accept resync
fetchPermission() now returns a tagged FetchPermissionResult so the
auto-accept loop can distinguish a server-confirmed 404 (the
permission is no longer pending) from a fetch failure (network error
or pre-v1.17.12 server). Previously both cases collapsed to null, so
a permission the server had already answered would still appear in
the resync output and trigger a spurious 'Permission needed' toast.
The auto-accept loop in resyncBlockingRequestsForDirectory now tracks
both accepted and resolved permissions, then drops both from the
'grouped' map before it falls through to the toast path. On a
pre-v1.17.12 server (no V2 endpoint) the call still returns
'unknown' and the permission stays in the resync output so the user
can answer manually — fail-closed, no false-resolved signals.
Adds a focused unit test for fetchPermission (4 cases: 200 ok, 404
resolved, 500 unknown, network throw) mocking the V2 SDK client
shape.

* perf(worktree): skip unchanged store updates and content-aware persist
- Add content-aware equality check before setState in all three discovery
loops (SessionSidebar, ElectronMiniChatApp, MobileApp). Compares
Map size and per-entry length + element references — avoids triggering
16+ subscriber re-renders when discovery finds the same worktrees.
- Add content-hash guard to persistWorktreeMap subscription with try-catch.
Avoids redundant localStorage writes when the Map reference changed but
the content is identical. Serialization errors are caught and skipped.
Contributes to #1990
* perf(worktree): extract shared worktreeMapsEqual, fix comparison, avoid double serialization
- Extract worktreeMapsEqual() into worktreeManager.ts as a shared utility
comparing worktree maps by path (not reference identity). This replaces
the inline reference-comparison logic in all three discovery loops
(SessionSidebar, ElectronMiniChatApp, MobileApp) that was ineffective
because readStableProjectWorktrees creates new object instances on
each call after cache expiry, making item !== value[i] always true.
- Pass pre-serialized JSON to persistWorktreeMap to avoid double
JSON.stringify on every persist. The subscriber already computes the
serialized string for the content-hash check; pass it through instead
of re-serializing inside persistWorktreeMap.
- Deduplicate 3 copies of the same comparison logic into the shared util.
* refactor(worktree): make worktreeMapsEqual generic over path-bearing type
The helper's equality contract is element-wise path comparison,
not anything specific to WorktreeMetadata. Generifying on
`T extends { path: string }` documents the contract at the type
level and keeps it reusable for any future map-of-arrays shape
that has a path field. Call sites stay compatible since
WorktreeMetadata has a required `path: string`.
No runtime change.
* refactor(worktree-store): clarify persist hash name and signature
Drop the optional preSerialized parameter from persistWorktreeMap —
its only caller (the subscriber) already builds the serialized
string for the content-compare, so the dual-path body is dead code.
persistWorktreeMap now takes the serialized string directly.
Rename lastPersistedWorktreeHash → lastPersistedWorktreeSerialized
(the variable holds the full JSON string, not a hash) and drop the
try/catch around JSON.stringify: it cannot realistically throw on
Map.entries() of WorktreeMetadata (no circular refs, no BigInt, no
custom toJSON). The try/catch around setItem stays — it can throw
on quota errors.
No behavior change in the success path.
* docs(worktree): trim repeated call-site comments
Replace the 5-line explanation block (copy-pasted in all three
discovery loops) with a one-liner that points at the worktreeMapsEqual
JSDoc. The '16+ subscribers' framing is also dropped — the helper
itself is general-purpose and the precise number was fuzzy.
* fix(worktree): compare branch in worktreeMapsEqual to avoid stale sidebar label
The helper compared entries by path only. An external git checkout
between discoveries changes branch (and the derived label /
headState) while path stays the same, so the helper returned true
and the store update was skipped — leaving a stale branch label in
the sidebar until the next worktree create/remove or project switch,
since there is no periodic worktree-list refresh.
Compare branch in the inner loop alongside path. Tighten the generic
constraint to T extends { path: string; branch: string } so the
contract is documented at the type level.
worktreeStatus is intentionally NOT compared: status transitions go
through setStoredWorktreeStatus, which writes a fresh Map reference
that the persist subscriber picks up directly. Adding worktreeStatus
to the contract would also force the sidebar to detect status changes
that the persist path already handles, and would couple this helper
to a field whose semantics differ from the discovery path.
Fixes the staleness concern raised by openchamber-bot in PR #1992.
* test(worktree): cover worktreeMapsEqual edge cases
Documents the helper's equality contract and guards against
regressions in the path+branch comparison. Eight cases:
- two empty maps
- identical entries (path and branch match in order)
- same path, different branch — the F1 regression case
- different paths at the same index
- per-project array length mismatch
- project-key count mismatch
- positional reorder (helper is order-sensitive)
- non-first-entry branch difference (subset detection)
All 10 tests in the file pass (2 existing + 8 new).
* ci: retrigger checks
* test(worktree): add benchmark for worktreeMapsEqual and persist path
Documents the actual cost of the PR #1992 optimizations on representative
sizes (1-1000 worktrees per project, 1-50 projects), so future contributors
can reproduce the numbers and detect regressions in the equality helper or
the persist subscriber.
Run with: `bun run packages/ui/src/lib/worktrees/worktreeManager.bench.ts`
Measured on V8 (one example run):
- worktreeMapsEqual early-exit (50×20 with first project differing):
412 ns/op vs 33,034 ns/op full sweep — ~80x speedup when any project
actually changed.
- F1 path+branch overhead vs path-only (10×50): +2.3 µs (+15.8%) on a
full sweep; on the early-exit path the F1 cost is irrelevant.
- Stringify dedup in persistWorktreeMap subscriber: 67% saved (552 µs
per persist on 10×50). This is the main absolute win of the PR.
- Content-compare guard: 19-29 ns/op, free relative to the stringify it
gates.
Bench file is standalone (import.meta.main guard) — does not run as part
of `bun test`, does not import React, does not touch localStorage.

* fix(sync): commit first message page before expansion loop (#2084)
loadMessages committed the store only after the full expansion sequence
(50→100→150), so the hydrating skeleton stayed for 3 sequential HTTP
round-trips when a session tail had no user message boundary.
Move the store write (materialize + setState) to happen after the first
fetch. The expansion loop now commits each expanded page incrementally
instead of overwriting a page variable and committing once at the end.
The first commit is gated on hasUserMessage(page.session) || page.complete:
if the tail is assistant-only, deferring to the expansion loop keeps the
skeleton (loading state) instead of rendering an empty chat that looks
like a fresh session. Sessions with a user boundary in the first 50
messages get content after a single round-trip.
* fix(sync): address review nits for #2084
- deferred init uses page.session instead of [] so limit reflects the
real fetched count if the expansion loop is ever a no-op
- both stale branches in commitMessagesToStore return messages: [] for
consistency
- add isStale guard between expansion fetch and commit for defense-in-depth
* fix(sync): always commit prepend-mode pages to store (#2084)
The deferred init path (assistant-only tail) skipped commitMessagesToStore
entirely when options.before was set — prepend mode. The fetched older
messages were never written to the store, silently dropping them.
Gate the deferral on !options.before: prepend mode always commits because
messages are already rendered (no skeleton to protect) and skipping the
store write would lose the fetched page.

Reworks how devices connect to an OpenChamber server, end to end.
Pairing v2:
- One-time pairing links/QR codes (openchamber://connect?v=2) carrying a set of transport candidates (LAN/tunnel/relay) and a single-use secret redeemed server-side; no tokens embedded in links
- Add-a-device dialog written for first-time users: intent-based transport choice (Anywhere / Home network only / This computer only) with plain-language descriptions, transparent fallback checkboxes, server-authoritative LAN detection, high-res QR dialog
- Private relay folded into pairing as a transport candidate with a demand-driven lifecycle (enables when a relay device is paired, disables when none remain)
Multi-transport devices:
- A saved device holds all its transports and one token; mobile re-probes on connect, resume, and network change and hot-switches LAN<->relay seamlessly (no re-pairing, no remount, session preserved)
- Desktop can import relay pairing links, switch to relay hosts through the E2EE tunnel, and restore a relay default host after relaunch
Device management:
- Device list (web + desktop) shows live per-device connectivity with the active transport (Connected - Local network / Relay) and platform badges (iOS/Android/macOS/Windows/Linux)
- One physical device = one record: stable per-install dedupe keys across pairing and password re-login; typed pairing label names the device, paired devices name the connection by the issuing server hostname
- Trusted desktop-local client manages all devices (list, revoke, clear revoked); relay host reaps dead client sockets after 3 missed keepalives
Android:
- LAN transport unblocked (cleartext + mixed content, mirroring iOS ATS exceptions); resume re-probe retries through network flux and silently auto-reconnects from a disconnected state
