The old scroll engine needed message parts to report content growth
(onContentChange) and per-message animation lifecycle callbacks
(AnimationHandlers) so it could re-pin the viewport. The timeline list
measures growth itself now, and the replacement hook had already stubbed
the whole contract with no-ops kept only for source compatibility.
Remove it end to end: the hook exports, the container and list threading,
the ChatMessage/MessageBody signal-only effects, and every part-level
prop and call site. Expand/collapse behavior and reveal animations are
untouched — only the reporting channel goes.
Sending a message now parks that message near the top of the viewport
and streams the reply into reserved end space below it, instead of
jumping to the bottom and chasing it.
- swap @tanstack/react-virtual for @legendapp/list in the chat timeline; the
streaming tail becomes a normal list row rather than a separately rendered
block, so one component owns the scroll position
- add timelineScrollAnchoring: pure anchored-turn geometry plus the three
scroll modes (following-end / anchoring-new-turn / free-scrolling)
- replace useChatAutoFollow with useChatTimelineScroll, which opts out of
automatic movement on real gestures via a generation counter instead of the
timer windows the old implementation needed to recognise its own writes
- move the load-older button, question/permission cards, recap, status row and
bottom spacer into the list header/footer, since the list owns its container
- extract useScrollShadow so the shadows can attach to that container
maintainScrollAtEnd and maintainVisibleContentPosition replace the manual
prepend anchor-hold and the mobile quiet-window prepend deferral.
Validated: workspace type-check, lint, web build, ui tests per file.
Scroll behaviour itself is unverified and needs manual testing on web, desktop
and iOS.
The panel stored notes, todos and plans inside one shared JSON file that
six unrelated domains also wrote to, synchronised itself through window
CustomEvents, and could only read plans. It is now Project knowledge:
server-owned storage with explicit routes, a store with rollback, a
section sidebar, plans that open and edit in place, and search across
all of it.
Notes and plans the user pins travel with every message sent in that
project. Pinning is project state, not an attachment to one message, so
it holds until unpinned and the work status panel names what is riding
along and can detach it.
Agent memory is added alongside, in two scopes: what is true about the
user, and what is true about this codebase. The split is not cosmetic —
a wrong project fact costs one project and is noticed, while a wrong
global fact quietly shapes every session everywhere and the user has no
code to check it against. It stays separate from notes so an agent
mistake cannot land in what the user wrote. Sessions receive an index of
titles only; bodies are read on demand, because an index carrying full
text grows until it crowds out the conversation.
Deciding what a session must be told, and whether it has been told, now
lives on the server. The client owned it before, which meant sessions
started without a UI — scheduled tasks, sessions the agent dispatches —
received nothing at all, and a tab's record of what it had sent outlived
the conversation: after compaction the agent no longer held the block
while the tab went on believing it did. What was delivered is recorded
in the session's own metadata, and compaction restores it through the
runtime that already restores pinned messages, in the same turn.
Agent memory ships dark behind OPENCHAMBER_MEMORY_ENABLE: unset, there
is no tool, no routes, no session index, no settings row and no panel
tab. Absent rather than switched off, so nothing invites turning on a
feature that has not been announced. Pinned notes and plans are
unaffected and ship as normal.
The preview panel worked by proxying a dev server through OpenChamber's own
origin and rewriting the HTML that came back. Anything the rewriter did not
anticipate broke, and pages that refuse to be embedded never loaded at all.
This deletes the proxy (-1604 lines and its tests) and merges the preview and
browser panels into one surface backed by a real Chromium view.
What the panel is now
- A `<webview>` in its own session partition: logins and cookies persist, hot
reload works because nothing is rewritten, DevTools are one click away.
- Annotation: pick one element, drag a region, or draw freehand, write a note,
and it reaches chat with a screenshot of the visible page with the marks on it.
- Toolbar: hard reload, page zoom, device sizes, a light/dark switch that
applies to the page rather than the app, and cookie/cache clearing scoped to
the panel alone.
- Several pages at once, each tab showing the page's own favicon, and an address
bar that suggests pages already visited in this project.
- Dev servers are listed from what is actually listening on the machine, checked
against what a project announced, so a server is offered no matter how it was
started. One that is still starting is waited for instead of failing.
Remote dev servers
The desktop app binds a local port and pipes raw bytes to the OpenChamber host
over the existing authenticated connection, so the page keeps its own origin at
the root of its own host. The reachable set is exactly what discovery reports
and is re-checked per connection, so an authenticated client cannot dial
arbitrary local services on the host. Links and redirects to another loopback
port stay on the machine that served the page. A tunnel that cannot be opened is
reported; it is never replaced by the plain loopback URL, which would answer
from the user's own machine under a remote address.
Agent control
Browser actions are a separate `openchamber_web` tool: open, snapshot, click,
type, scroll, inspect computed styles, resize between mobile/tablet/desktop, and
capture a screenshot into `.openchamber/screenshots/` in the project. The
existing `openchamber` tool keeps sessions, worktrees and scheduled tasks. Each
has its own setting in the new Settings -> General -> OpenChamber Tools section,
and the plugin is not injected at all when both are off.
Capability belongs to the connected client, not to configuration: a client
declares on its event stream that it can drive a page, which only a Chromium
host does. Exactly one client performs each request — it claims the request
before acting, and the first claim wins — because deciding by whose result
arrives first would be too late for a click that already happened. No client
listening is answered immediately with an explanation rather than a timeout.
Runtime boundaries
Web tabs get a plain iframe that can display a page but not inspect one. The
VS Code extension no longer offers the surface at all, since nothing that makes
the panel worth having works there. Mobile is unaffected.
Native boundary
Camera, microphone, location and device-picker requests from panel pages are
denied — Electron grants them by default when no handler is set, and the panel
loads whatever address the user types. Page capture, appearance emulation and
storage clearing verify that their target belongs to the panel's own session
instead of trusting a web-contents id from the renderer.
Persisted state
Stored `preview` tabs migrate to `browser` (v13 -> v14). Context panel tab
limits are now per surface, so filling one surface no longer evicts another's
tabs. Address history is stored per project and per runtime.
Documentation
`preview.mdx` and `desktop-browser.mdx` rewritten across all locales, the agent
tool settings path corrected, new `DOCUMENTATION.md` for the browser-control
broker and the dev tunnel, and the `ui-api-decoupling` skill updated where it
still described the deleted proxy.
* fix(ui): update session-switch-resync test to current handleEvent/setSessionTodos signatures
Co-authored-by: Serhii Dziupin <makeittech@users.noreply.github.com>
* perf(build): split Shiki grammars/themes, CodeMirror legacy modes, and @pierre/diffs into on-demand chunks
Merging @shikijs/langs into one manual vendor chunk made the first language
request download every grammar (7.4 MB raw / 1 MB gzip). Letting Rollup split
these packages per dynamically imported module downloads only the languages,
themes, and modes actually used — matching how the worker build already
behaves. @pierre/diffs is split the same way so its pure patch parser (used by
the eager tool renderer) no longer drags the Shiki-importing render stack into
the startup graph.
Co-authored-by: Serhii Dziupin <makeittech@users.noreply.github.com>
* perf(ui): restore lazy heavy views and stop eager settings-graph loading
- MainLayout: DiffView/FilesView/GitView/PlanView return to lazyWithChunkRecovery
(they were silently made static in 2031e3b4 while their Suspense wrappers
remained), keeping the CodeMirror and @pierre/diffs stacks out of startup.
- ContextPanel: same lazy treatment for its Diff/Files/Git/Plan/Walkthrough
tabs, with null Suspense fallbacks.
- CommandPalette imported getSettingsNavIcon from SettingsView, statically
pulling the entire settings surface (SkillsPage -> CodeMirrorEditor -> vim
mode, theme registry -> @pierre/diffs) into the eager graph; the helper now
lives in lib/settings/metadata.
- The windowed SettingsWindow mounts only after its first open: rendering the
lazy component closed made React fetch the SettingsView chunk graph at
startup.
Co-authored-by: Serhii Dziupin <makeittech@users.noreply.github.com>
* perf(ui): keep @pierre/diffs + Shiki out of the eager chat graph and defer diff worker warmup
- DiffWorkerProvider no longer statically imports @pierre/diffs/worker or the
theme registry, and no longer spawns 3 workers plus a main-thread shared
highlighter during mount. Pools are created on demand through a dynamic
module load, warmed via requestIdleCallback after startup settles, and
useWorkerPool notifies consumers when a pool becomes available.
- ToolPart's rich diff preview moves to lazily loaded ToolPartDiffPreview;
the plain-text patch (PlainDiffFallback) renders while the chunk loads,
mirroring the existing error fallback. Theme registration happens during
render inside the lazy module so PatchDiff never renders unregistered ids.
- ChatInput mounts its lazy ToolOutputDialog only after the first attachment
preview opens instead of fetching the dialog chunk on the draft screen.
- getMarkdownSyntaxVars moves to a pierre-free markdownSyntaxVars module so
eager code-rendering consumers stop importing the registration module.

* perf(web): load ghostty-web and Nerd Fonts on first terminal use
- ghostty-web (638 KB raw JS + WASM VT) is dynamically imported when a
terminal actually mounts; TerminalView stays eagerly importable for the
bottom dock.
- The ~2 MB of CDN Nerd Fonts are no longer preloaded and force-loaded on
every cold start. index.html exposes an idempotent
__openchamberEnsureNerdFonts hook; TerminalViewport requests it on mount
and waits up to 2s so a cached font is in place before the glyph atlas is
built, while a cold CDN fetch never blocks the terminal. Runtimes without
the hook (VS Code, mobile) resolve immediately, matching their existing
fallback-font behavior.

The spinner ran a CSS animation on every active row for the whole turn,
repainting a composited layer at frame rate. Rows now carry a static dot —
primary while running, info while unread — and the metadata slot on the right
shows how long the turn has been going, updating once per second in the dot's
colour. The counter is the motion the spinner used to provide, at 1 fps.
Collapsed groups, folders and projects take the dot only, since one counter
cannot speak for several running turns.
Elapsed time is measured client-side because SessionStatus carries no
timestamps, and starts are persisted so a reload resumes the same count. Two
rules keep that honest. Only a liveness stamp — refreshed while a session is
observed active, stamped as the page hides, and compared against the page's
navigation start so a slow bootstrap is not charged to the absence — and a 90s
adoption window may expire a record; a snapshot that cannot yet see a session
is not evidence its turn ended. And a busy event is never read as a turn
boundary, because OpenCode republishes busy at every step of the agent loop, so
after a reload one of those repeats normally beats the first status snapshot.
Idle and error events do end a turn, and retire the record with it.
Snapshot reconciliation walks the running turns and asks whether the snapshot
covers each one, rather than being handed everything it covers: only a live
start can settle, so the pass scales with timing work instead of with the
directory's session list, and allocates nothing per poll.
Also applied to the mobile sessions sheet and session switcher. The shared
duration ticker moves to hooks/ now that it has a second consumer.
Navigation model rebuilt around two full-width drawers and a minimal
header (sessions / title-switcher / usage ring / workspace):
- Left sessions drawer: cross-project tree with live status indicators,
swipe actions on sessions (rename/archive/delete) and on group headers
(project edit / two-step close, worktree delete), reorder-only edit
mode with collapsible project cards and draggable worktrees, app-level
footer (connected instance, settings, pending web update).
- Right workspace drawer: Changes / Files / Terminal / Notes / MCP as
pill tabs (inactive tabs icon-only); panes stay mounted once visited.
The full desktop file editor serves the Files tab; read/skill tool taps
in chat open the file there at the requested line.
- Header session switcher on title tap: 10 cross-project recents with
live busy/attention indicators and project · branch metadata; the
usage ring opens a metadata overlay with an explicit loading state.
- The overflow menu is gone on phones (its destinations moved into the
drawers); iPad keeps it until its dedicated layout pass.
Correctness and continuity:
- /auth/session answers bearer-first, so a stale WebView cookie can no
longer mask a revoked device token; cold launches classify failures
fast and land on an explicit connect screen.
- Authoritative session snapshots raise frozen ordering baselines and
stale live ranks — recents stay truthful after the app slept.
- Cold launches reopen the last active session per instance (persisted
pointer, confirmed against a sessions snapshot; a user-opened draft
clears it), with a logo hold instead of a draft flash.
Also: collapsed pill composer gains the stop control; chat tool rows
share one 36px rhythm; Task subtool rows truncate; larger bottom safe
area so the composer clears big-screen corner radii; Capacitor build
hides About/Update (store updates apply there); widgets link to the
sessions drawer with a list icon; MobileApp split into focused modules;
five mobile-surface detectors unified; translucent borders normalized to
70%; all new strings translated across the 10 locales.
iPad and foldable layouts are intentionally untouched - separate next version PR.
* feat(ui): add context surface registry and rail switcher
* feat(ui): move git and project notes into context surfaces, embed editor file tree
* feat(ui): replace right sidebar with context surfaces, per-surface panel widths
* refactor(ui): retire legacy main-tab overlays and right-sidebar state
* feat(ui): rail polish, right-docked file tree, terminal surface
* feat(ui): move terminal into context surface, per-surface tab closing, editor empty state
* feat(ui): tune default rail order and activity dot
* fix(ui): keep context panel controls anchored during width animations
* feat(ui): lazy-follow context panel resize with window-level drag tracking
* feat(ui): panel dividers, right-dock tree icon, muted outline folder icons
* feat(ui): restructure git view into changes-first surface with standalone PR surface
- Remove commit/update/pr tabs; git view is always changes + commit
- Promote pull request to its own rail surface with shared repo context
- Move update-branch and re-integrate flows into separate dialogs
- Add PR status chip and repo actions menu to the git header row
- Seed new PR-status entries from resolved sibling remotes to avoid
a false "checking status" state when the PR is already known
- History/graph dialog refresh button, fingerprint global identity icon,
muted outline folder icons follow-ups
* feat(ui): progressive-disclosure PR surface with live checks and pinned chat context
- Segment the PR surface into Overview / Checks / Comments pill tabs with
live badges; merge controls move to the status row
- Live checks segment: progress bar, per-run rows with workflow names,
elapsed timers, expandable failures, auto-refresh while pending
- PR comments and failed checks pin as chat-context drafts (like terminal
selections) instead of sending an immediate message; works on new-session
drafts too
- Shared prContext cache client+server, ETag conditional requests in the
octokit wrapper (304s bypass rate limits), extended checks aggregate
(inProgress/queued/startedAt)
- Resolve gh-CLI auth login for merge-permission checks
- Full-width description editor with matched control heights
* fix(ui): single source of truth for PR checks and status readers
- Derive the checks aggregate from the visible run list and sync it into
the PR-status store so bar, badges, header, and git-view chip agree
- Route PR body hydration through the shared context cache
- Git-view PR chip reads the freshest entry across remote keys
* fix(github): freshness stamps prevent stale cache responses from regressing PR state
- pr/status and pulls/context responses carry a server-side fetchedAt that
survives cache serves
- The status store rejects responses older than the held snapshot (only
clearing the loading flag), and the checks sync adopts the context's
stamp so stale status polls cannot flip fresher derived checks
- Regression test for the stale-response guard
* perf(github): repo-level pull-list cache collapses per-branch PR resolution
- One pulls.list per repo per state per 45s answers every branch (10
worktrees = 1 call, not 10 query fans); in-flight fetches coalesce
- A complete repo list makes a no-PR miss authoritative, skipping the
per-owner head queries AND the Search API fallback (the 30/min killer)
- force refresh bypasses the repo list cache; PR create/merge/ready
invalidate it
* perf(github): back off Search API misses per repo+branch
A branch without a PR re-searched on every poll; with >100 closed PRs the
list miss is never authoritative, so the search fallback still ran and
burned the 30/min search quota. Remember misses for 10 minutes; PR
creation clears remembered misses for the repo.
* fix(github): dedupe re-run check runs to the latest per (app, name)
listForRef returns the superseded completed run alongside its re-run;
GitHub's UI shows only the latest per name. Mirror that in both pr/status
and pulls/context so counts and run lists match github.com.
* fix(ui): address review findings on registry test, surface docs, and PR-context keys
- Rail-order test asserts against the registry itself (was stale after the
'pr' surface landed and failed)
- surfaces DOCUMENTATION.md describes actual behavior: has-content surfaces
hide until content exists; only multi-instance/terminal panes are
keep-alive, singleton surfaces remount and restore from stores
- PR-context cache keys are runtime-scoped JSON tuples; invalidation
compares the directory exactly instead of by string prefix (+ test)
* fix(ui): wrap long unbreakable tokens in check-run details
Annotation messages with long SHAs/URLs overflowed the panel; break-words
on annotation title/message/rawDetails and output summary/text, and the
expanded run body clips instead of widening the panel.
* fix(ui): busy state for context-attach buttons and honest attach labels
- 'Attach failed checks' / 'Attach all to chat' show a spinner and disable
while the context request runs (previously nothing happened for seconds)
- Action labels/tooltips reworded from send-to-agent to attach-to-chat
semantics across all locales
* fix(i18n): Ukrainian attach wording uses 'прикріпити' with proper cases
* fix(ui): runtime-scope PR-view remote caches, correct surfaces doc on preview
- Remote/remote-url caches in PullRequestView are keyed by runtime +
directory so a backend switch never serves another runtime's remotes
- surfaces DOCUMENTATION.md: preview is not keep-alive; preview tabs
remount on switch like singleton surfaces
* fix(ui): rail active color, clearer collapse icon, remove dead bottom-terminal dock
Design-review feedback on the context panel:
- Context rail: icons enlarged 16px -> 18px; the active surface is now
highlighted with the primary color only (no background, no scale
animation), replacing the previous scale-up effect that read as a
resize rather than a selected state.
- Files tree: the icon-only 'collapse all folders' toolbar button now
uses collapse-vertical instead of contract-up-down, which was easily
mistaken for a close button. The labelled 'Collapse all' dropdown item
in the session sidebar keeps its icon since text removes the ambiguity.
- Terminal: removed the leftover bottom-dock expand/close buttons that
rendered in the context-panel terminal but controlled a dock that no
longer exists (nothing toggles it anymore), so the expand button
appeared to do nothing and duplicated the panel-header fullscreen
control. Cleaned up the entire inert layer with it: four useUIStore
fields (isBottomTerminalOpen/Expanded, bottomTerminalHeight,
hasManuallyResizedBottomTerminal), five actions, their persistence,
the MainLayout resize listener that only served the dock height, the
dock-driven refit effect in TerminalView, and the
terminalView.bottomDock.* keys across all 10 locale dictionaries.
Validated: ui type-check and lint clean; messages parity test (2 pass)
and useUIStore contextPanel test (13 pass) green; icon sprite
regenerated via icons:generate.
* refactor: use PR visual state for git header icon
Derives the pull request icon color from a single visual state
Covers merged, closed, draft, blocked, and open PR states
Removes conditional class handling from the git header icon
Add a shared OpenChamber control service with two thin adapters — a native
`openchamber` tool injected into managed OpenCode, and new CLI commands — so
users can manage parallel sessions, worktrees, and scheduled tasks
conversationally through agents or from the terminal.
Control plane:
- New openchamber-control service owning a fixed action contract:
projects.list, models.list, session list/create/send/fork/status/messages,
and schedule list/create/run/delete/toggle. Session and worktree deletion
and project registration are deliberately not exposed.
- New openchamber-sessions module owning create/worktree/prompt orchestration,
Goal Mode dispatch, wait semantics (initial idle never counts as completion;
timeout and cancellation are failures), and explicit partial-failure results.
- Scheduled-task logic extracted into a service shared by routes, CLI, and the
agent tool.
Agent tool:
- Managed OpenCode gets a materialized plugin registering one typed tool with
a loopback-only callback, per-child ephemeral bearer (timing-safe, never
persisted or logged), and abort propagation into the service.
- The ~1.5k-token schema applies progressive disclosure: short descriptions,
server-side validation returning actionable usage errors, and intent
guardrails — created sessions/tasks are user-facing work (not age
self-delegation); worktree/goal/agent/variant/wait are omit-by-default;
dispatches produce no completion notification, and later result r
to session.messages, which now returns the authoritative sessionStatus.
- session.create without a user-named model picks from favorites/re
send/fork omit the selection and the service reuses the target session's
last user-message model, agent, and variant before falling back t
- An "Agent control tool" setting (default on, Save + Reload to apply)
disables plugin injection entirely.
CLI:
- New `openchamber session`, `schedule`, `projects`, and `models` commands
with automatic instance targeting, --wait/--timeout/--last-assist
worktree flags, and Goal Mode, preserving interactive, non-TTY, --quiet,
and --json contracts. The control HTTP timeout derives from the w
instead of the 4-second default.
UI:
- New built-in "Schedule a Task" starter (/schedule-task) running a
dialogue that defines a task and offers to create it via the tool after
explicit confirmation; Craft a Goal and Feature Planning gain the
handoff offer, and guided starters reserve the question tool for concrete
option choices. Localized in all 10 locales, migrated into custom
starter lists, hidden on VS Code.
- Sidebar shows CLI/agent-created sessions live via the control eve
- openchamber tool calls render with per-action titles and metadata.

Use the Task part's state.metadata.sessionId as the only live identity contract for child sessions. Remove timestamp, status, and ordering heuristics that could misassociate concurrent subagents or repeatedly scan directory sessions while parts stream.
Extract Task metadata parsing and child-summary projection into a focused model with cached projections for unchanged message records. Preserve output and part-level metadata parsing only for legacy persisted records, and keep standalone Task rows visible when sorted activity groups are rendered.
Validated with focused Task and turn projection tests, UI type-check, lint, and dead-code analysis.
React error #31 (Objects are not valid as a React child) was thrown
intermittently when a task/subagent tool returned structured data
(e.g. { TODO: '...' }) in a field that the OpenCode SDK types as a
plain string. Pathological payloads would propagate into JSX children
without runtime validation, white-screening the chat until refresh.
This change adds a single `coerceToText` helper in toolRenderers.tsx
and applies it at every vulnerable JSX expression:
- ToolPart.tsx:1807,1975 {state.error} (typed string, can be object)
- ToolPart.tsx:1825 {q.question} (QuestionCard input cast)
- ToolPart.tsx:1830 {opt.label} (QuestionCard input cast)
- ToolPart.tsx:1848 task tool markdown output
- ToolPart.tsx:1898 ToolScrollableTextOutput entry
- toolRenderers.tsx {todo.content} x4 in renderTodoOutput
renderTodoOutput now also validates the parsed array at the boundary
(JSON.parse result is filtered to objects whose content and status are
runtime strings), so a single bad row no longer poisons the whole
tool output.
Tests: 12 new unit tests in
packages/ui/src/components/chat/message/parts/__tests__/issue-2011-react-error-31.test.ts
covering the {TODO}-key object path, circular references, and
non-string content/status on parsed todos.

Tool JSON output now starts with a compact navigable summary view.
Expandable tool output includes quick open-file and diff actions for changed files.
Reasoning headers strip stray HTML comments, and navigation tools stay compact.
Gate passive auto-follow on active (working/settling) state so idle layout
churn from virtualizer re-measurement no longer re-pins the viewport to the
bottom. Render default-open tool bodies synchronously on mount so the
virtualizer measures the real row height up front instead of growing a frame
later and lurching scroll past several messages.
* fix(chat): preserve tool duration across session switches
Fix#1636: ToolPart.tsx reset pinnedTime to empty on unmount/remount,
causing LiveDuration to not render on first paint. Now initializes
pinnedTime from server-provided time?.start/time?.end in the useState
initializer, eliminating the one-frame gap.
* fix(sync): preserve tool state.time in materialization merge

Reworks the chat and session-sidebar render paths to cut render cascades, memory
churn, and UI jank on large sessions and big session trees. Behavior is preserved;
the changes are about *when* and *how much* the UI re-renders.
## Chat streaming
- Freeze the streaming message's parts in the bulk turn projection during streaming,
and re-inject live parts only in an isolated tail leaf, so a ~60/sec delta stream
no longer re-runs the whole-session projection or re-renders unrelated rows.
session with referential reuse of unchanged turns.
- Memoize message rows with field-aware comparators instead of reference equality.
- Replace the manual child-session polling in the task tool with the live SSE
stream + a one-shot load, removing a fetch/settle state machine.
## History loading & scroll
- Load an initial page fast, then prepend one older page in the background so the
scroll container has headroom and "load older on scroll-up" fires before the user
hits the absolute top.
- Compensate scroll synchronously (in a layout effect, before paint) for prepends —
including background prepends that don't originate from a user scroll — so the
viewport stays stable instead of judder-correcting on the next frame.
## Markdown rendering
- Render markdown synchronously *styled* on first paint (paragraphs, lists, code
cards, tables, inline code) instead of raw escaped text; the async pass then only
upgrades syntax-highlight colors. Eliminates the flash of full-width raw text.
- Load KaTeX CSS eagerly with the main bundle instead of inside the lazy markdown
chunk, avoiding a late stylesheet injection on first render.
## Sidebar
- Hoist per-row recursive tree walks out of row comparators into per-group
precomputed sets/keys; batch live-session lookups into a single map; add a
group-level memo boundary.
- Isolate rename drafts so per-keystroke typing doesn't repaint the row tree.
## Sync layer
- Add a staleness guard so a slow message fetch can't repopulate a session the user
navigated away from.
- Throw on fetch failure for authoritative loaders so a transient blip can't read as
an empty server response.
## Cleanup
- Remove dead code (unused hooks, params, duplicated inline types) surfaced while
reworking the above.
## Known issue
- A rare, purely cosmetic first-paint width flash can still appear on large sessions;
it has no behavioral or data impact and is tracked for a follow-up runtime trace.
The Prism syntaxTheme prop is no longer read after code highlighting moved to
the Shiki worker. Remove the now-dead prop threading and its source.
- Drop syntaxTheme from interfaces, destructures, prop passes, and React.memo
comparators across ChatMessage, MessageBody, ProgressiveGroup, ToolPart,
TurnActivity, ToolOutputDialog, and ChatInput.
- Drop the unused _syntaxTheme param from renderWebSearchOutput.
- Remove the dead generateSyntaxTheme usages (ChatMessage memo, PlanView
unassigned memo) and delete the now-unimported syntaxThemeGenerator module.
Route all non-markdown code highlighting through the off-main-thread Shiki
worker, removing react-syntax-highlighter and prismjs entirely.
- Extend the worker with highlightLines: tokenize a whole block once and return
per-line inner HTML, so per-line layouts (diffs, gutters, virtualization) make
one worker call instead of one highlighter per line.
- Add shared WorkerHighlightedCode (whole-block) and useWorkerHighlightedLines
(per-line) primitives. Colors resolve via the --md-syntax-* CSS variables, so
theme changes never re-highlight.
- Migrate all 12 react-syntax-highlighter call sites: PermissionCard,
ToolPart, ContextSidebarTab, ToolOutputDialog (whole block) and
DiffPreview/WritePreview (per line).
- Migrate VirtualizedCodeBlock off prismjs to the worker, keeping virtua
virtualization; whole-block tokenization also restores cross-line syntax
context that per-line highlighting lost.
- Drop react-syntax-highlighter (+types) from ui and web, prismjs (+types) from
ui, and the orphaned create-element type shim.
- Bump mobile line-height on tool/reasoning rows from leading-4 to leading-5
so descenders (g, y, p) are no longer clipped by truncate overflow
- Show the tool icon (not the chevron) for collapsed expandable tools on
mobile, matching reasoning rows; chevron now appears only when expanded
Replace useDirectoryStore.currentDirectory with useEffectiveDirectory() in
both TaskToolSummary and ToolPartContent to align the directory key used for
ContextPanel tab storage/lookup. Previously ToolPart used the global project
root while ContextPanel resolved session/worktree-scoped directories via
useEffectiveDirectory(), causing a key mismatch that left the iframe blank
when opening sub-tasks from chat messages.

Embed draw.io editor via react-drawio (MIT, zero deps) for inline
editing of .drawio files. Changes auto-save to disk. Includes
inline editor in FilesView with Visual/Source toggle, dark mode
support, template picker for new files, and chat file attachment
integration.

* fix: ignore watcher-triggered xml prop changes to prevent reload loop
* fix: remove auto-save-to-disk, add manual save button for diagrams
Autosave writes triggered file watcher cascade that reloaded the
draw.io iframe and reset zoom. Replaced with explicit Save button
in the toolbar (floppy disk icon). Editor XML is stable on mount
and ignores watcher-triggered prop changes.
* fix: remove auto-save write from DiagramView, add save button
* fix: hide draw.io save/exit buttons in editor
* fix: also hide save-and-exit button
* fix: brighten save button styling, add saved confirmation
* fix: remove autoSaveStatus toggle on diagram save to prevent toolbar collapse
* fix: add local save confirmation state for diagram button
* fix: remount drawio iframe on theme change, persisting XML across mounts
* fix: clear persisted xml on mount to prevent leaking between files
* fix: initialize dark mode synchronously, preserve edits across theme remount
* fix: auto-focus drawio iframe on mount/theme-change for keyboard shortcuts
* fix: add diagram i18n keys to Traditional Chinese locale
* fix: restore upstream HMR host and LAN address support
* fix: load sub-agent sessions on bootstrap for sidebar visibility
Two-phase session load: first fetch root sessions (for accurate
sessionTotal), then fetch all sessions and include child sessions
(sub-agent delegations). This ensures sub-agent sessions appear
in the sidebar immediately instead of relying on the async global
session store.
* remove opencode-drawio from PR branch
* fix: atomic file writes to prevent concurrent read/write truncation
Three-layer defense against the O_TRUNC race:
1. Write side (server): replace direct writeFile with write-to-temp-
then-rename. fs.rename is atomic on POSIX.
2. Read side (server): retry up to 3 times with 50ms backoff when
readFile returns empty but stat reported non-zero size.
3. FilesView client: refuse to save empty draftContent when the
original fileContent was non-empty.
* fix(dev): clean up orphaned OpenCode processes on Ctrl+C
* fix: allow empty file saves, log warning instead of blocking
Replaces the hard block on saving empty content with a console.warn.
The atomic write + read retry on the server side handle the O_TRUNC
race properly. The previous guard caused a UX regression by silently
preventing users from clearing a file and saving.
* fix: remove time window from sub-agent fallback for live tasks
While a task tool is active, the fallback now matches any session
with the correct parentID regardless of creation time. This allows
late-appearing child sessions to be found when the OpenCode server
is slow or the SSE event pipeline is delayed. The time window is
still applied once the task tool has completed, as a final sanity
check.
* fix: three diagram editor bugs from Greptile review
1. stableXmlRef now resets when xml prop changes — switching
between .drawio files renders the correct content.
2. Focus effect only runs on mount, not on isDark changes —
theme toggle no longer steals keyboard focus 600ms later.
3. saveDiagram updates xml state after writing — dirty-check
guard works correctly for subsequent saves.
* fix: route session.created SSE events to correct directory
Three-layer fix for sub-agent sessions not appearing in sidebar and
inline chat:
1. protocol.js: parseSseEventEnvelope now extracts directory from
properties.info.directory (where session.created/updated events
carry it) in addition to properties.directory. WS frames relayed
to the browser now carry the real directory instead of 'global',
so child sessions routed to the correct directory store.
2. event-pipeline.ts: same fallback in resolveEventDirectory for
defense-in-depth when SSE events bypass the WS relay.
3. resolveFallbackTaskSessionId.ts: time window lower bound now
allows 2s grace before taskStartTime to accommodate server timing
jitter (child session creation timestamps consistently precede the
tool's recorded start by ~6-9ms), fixing the 'Open subtask'
button not rendering in OpenChamber's inline chat.
* fix: sub-agent sidebar visibility, file zeroing guard, inline badge fallback
- Sync watchdog: periodic child session discovery poll (every 15s) detects
sessions created by other OpenCode instances, triggers parent materialization
- protocol.js: parseSseEventEnvelope extracts directory from
properties.info.directory for session.created/updated events
- event-pipeline.ts: same fallback in resolveEventDirectory for defense-in-depth
- resolveFallbackTaskSessionId: don't require taskStartTime (cross-OpenCode);
pick most recent child when multiple idle candidates exist
- readTaskSessionIdFromOutput: parse <task id="ses_xxx"> format from output
- FilesView: reinstate empty-draft guard (block save when draftContent='' but
fileContent had content) to prevent file zeroing on tab switch

Covers malformed apply_patch and edit diff cases
Improve chat session switching and history pagination, with most of the aggressive limits scoped to the VS Code webview where the freezes were observed.
Session history loading and pagination:
- Reduce the VS Code message page size to 30 records so switching sessions does not immediately hydrate large histories into the webview.
- Keep manual Load older messages in VS Code fixed at 30 records per request instead of growing the request size over time.
- Add a bounded VS Code initial-tail expansion path from 30 to 50, 80, and 120 records only when the initial page has no user-message turn boundary, preventing large final turns from rendering as an empty chat.
- Lower the normal web message page size from 200 to 150 for a mild shared optimization without adopting the aggressive VS Code limits.
- Make session pagination metadata reactive per session so ChatContainer receives cursor updates from materialization and reconnect paths without requiring a switch away and back.
- Write pagination metadata before publishing newly materialized messages so the first render sees the correct has-more state.
- Store cursor information from direct materialization and reconnect message fetches in the shared session prefetch metadata cache.
VS Code cache and memory pressure reductions:
- Use a shared per-directory session recency map so cache eviction is based on app-level recency instead of whichever useSync instance happened to run.
- Limit VS Code warm session cache retention to 4 sessions and evict heavy inactive message caches after switching away from a large session.
- Disable sidebar session prefetch in VS Code because warming extra sessions was increasing webview memory and GC pressure during navigation.
- Remove dropdown background message prefetch so opening the switcher does not start additional session materialization work.
- Drop cached session-message-record snapshots when evicting session data so stale derived records do not remain after the raw session cache is cleared.
- Add bounded LRU caching for session message record snapshots, with much smaller VS Code limits and a VS Code cap that avoids caching snapshots above 30 messages.
- Bound the turn-window model cache in VS Code and avoid caching turn models for sessions above the VS Code message-page size.
Chat render-path reductions:
- Reuse ChatContainer's already-materialized message records in plan detection instead of adding a second active-session message subscription.
- Add a no-op guard when marking session plan availability so repeated detections do not create new Map references and fan out renders.
- Add no-op guards for session switcher and dropdown open state updates to avoid unnecessary store updates and renders.
- Convert several session-specific hooks to useSyncExternalStore with empty-session no-subscribe behavior so empty IDs do not subscribe to broad store updates.
- Remount the chat viewport when the current session changes, isolating per-session viewport and list state.
- Change the virtualized message-list fallback to render only a tail window when the virtualizer has not produced rows yet, instead of rendering an entire large history.
VS Code layout and header improvements:
- Remove the broad useSessions subscription from the VS Code layout header path and subscribe only to the active session title and initial-session existence.
- Unmount the compact VS Code session sidebar when the user is in chat view instead of keeping the hidden session list mounted and subscribed.
- Compute the latest assistant model and latest context-token usage in a single reverse scan of current-session messages instead of scanning the same list twice.
- Remove switcher git-status warmup work so the switcher reads already-loaded branch labels without starting extra background git status requests.
Markdown and file-reference safeguards:
- Skip expensive syntax highlighting for very large code blocks, with a 200-line cap in VS Code and a softer 1200-line cap in web.
- Add an LRU cap to file-reference stat lookups so the cache cannot grow without bound across many rendered messages.
- Limit the number of file references annotated per render to 40 in VS Code and 200 in web to prevent large assistant outputs from spawning too many stat checks.
- Clear file-link annotations when file-reference mode is disabled so stale attributes and handlers do not remain on previously annotated nodes.
Assistant-message action and preview reductions:
- Skip preview URL scanning on VS Code, mobile, and mini-chat surfaces so assistant text and tool output are not scanned where the preview action is unavailable.
- Skip Save-as-Plan project lookup on VS Code, mini-chat, and mobile surfaces.
- Hide Save-as-Plan and Start MultiRun assistant-message actions on VS Code, mini-chat, and mobile surfaces.
- Resolve the current session directory on demand for assistant actions instead of subscribing each assistant message to the full session list.
Tool and task rendering optimizations:
- Prefer finalized task metadata summaries without fetching child-session messages when the summary is already present.
- Avoid polling or final-fetching task child sessions once a final metadata summary is available.
- Use VS Code-specific task child fetch limits of 30 records for initial, active, and idle fetches.
- Parse diff stats by scanning patch text line-by-line instead of splitting large patches into arrays.
- Count write-tool lines by scanning content instead of allocating a split array for large files.
- Avoid trimming large patch strings just to test whether they contain content.
- Memoize diff and write statistics so unchanged tool parts do not recalculate them on every render.
VS Code bridge improvements:
- Return JSON and text proxy responses through the VS Code bridge as bodyText instead of base64 so the webview avoids synchronous base64 decoding for common API responses.
- Keep binary responses on the base64 path while making bodyBase64 optional in the bridge contract.
- Strip content-length, content-encoding, and transfer-encoding headers from proxied responses because the bridge reconstructs the Response body.
Validation:
- bun run type-check
- bun run lint
- bun run vscode:build
