Bohdan Triapitsyn 3d2bcf7ed6 chore(changelog): retire CHANGELOG.md as a dependency
The update dialog (server and desktop) now reads changelog/index.json and
renders title, intro and groups; the release workflow builds the GitHub
Release body and name from changelog/<version>.md; oc-dev, the issue-intake
agent, AGENTS.md and the changelog skill no longer point at the file.

CHANGELOG.md stays as a legacy copy for installs up to 1.22.1, which fetch
it for update notes. The generator refreshes it while it exists and never
recreates it, so deleting it after 2026-09-19 retires it for good.

Generated outputs hold released versions only, so editing unreleased.md
never makes them stale: agents write that file and nothing else, and
oc-dev create-release does the generation.

Iuliia Ivashko 52d79cb368 fix(desktop): surface failed update installs
"Restart to Update" answered the renderer with null before the install was
attempted, so a rejected install only reached main.log and the button looked
dead. The apply-update path now keeps the IPC call open until the app quits or
autoUpdater reports the failure, rolls the quit/install flags back when the app
stays up, and the update dialog shows the real reason with a translated hint for
a rejected code signature.

Also settle the download promise on downloadUpdate() itself: an already cached
payload emits no 'update-downloaded', which left that promise pending with its
listeners attached on every retry.

Bohdan Triapitsyn b8465ae133 fix: harden and de-slop the merged contribution batch
Follow-ups promised on merge, plus review findings on the batch itself:

- chat: task-tool output now respects the 512KiB render cap; quick-open
  icon is visible at rest on coarse pointers and reachable by keyboard
  (row keydown no longer swallows inner-button Enter/Space); composer
  inline-code decoration drops the metric-shifting padding; a btw fork
  send carries only the boundary instruction, never the promotion notice
- sync: cascade revert/unrevert aborts busy descendants, busy state is
  read from every child store at the moment of use; rule 9 documents
  redo clearing all descendant revert markers
- electron: renderer recovery keeps memory-eviction (a valid
  render-process-gone reason) and both windows share one
  attachRendererRecovery helper
- vscode: process registry is a thin re-export of the web module
  (provider-env-aliases precedent) with ordered register/unregister
  writes and an awaited close
- server/cli: managed-process registry takes injectable deps (fixes the
  unreaped-orphans ReferenceError), corrupt settings errors name the
  file, getWorktrees test restores console.warn
- tests: module-mock harnesses removed (AgentsSidebar, SettingsView
  mobile focus — behaviors stay live but uncovered, accepted trade),
  QuestionMarkdown asserts rendered DOM
- i18n: German gains the debug-panel request keys, Japanese/German drop
  removed worktree keys, Ukrainian unit spacing fixed
- changelog: Copilot AI Credits entries (main + VS Code)

Bohdan Triapitsyn 4b0fcfaa7b fix(desktop): boot relay-paired default hosts without the recovery wall
The startup path probed a relay host's stored direct URL — often the
pairing creator's own loopback — and any failure landed on the Remote
Server Unreachable screen before the renderer's relay restore could run.
A relay-capable default host now boots to main on the local substrate for
any failed direct probe (unreachable, wrong-service, incompatible), skips
the 10s second probe, and lets the renderer's existing restore pick
direct-or-relay.

Bohdan Triapitsyn 098034dc33 fix(desktop): stop windows from adopting each other's active project
Every window shares one server settings document, and every PUT returns the
merged whole, so one window's activeProjectId write was adopted by the
other on its next unrelated settings save — its sidebar then auto-selected
a session in that project and wrote the pointer back, converging both
windows onto one session. settings-synced now carries an adoptWorkspace
flag: only bootstrap-grade syncs (startup, runtime switch) may adopt the
shared workspace pointers; reconcile responses keep the window's own active
project while it exists. Notification clicks and session deep links also
stopped broadcasting the session switch to every window.

Bohdan Triapitsyn f007d07bee fix(desktop): serve packaged index.html with no-store
The openchamber-ui:// handler returned index.html without cache
headers, so the renderer disk cache could keep a freshly installed
build loading the previous version's hashed bundles. Hashed assets
stay cacheable; only the document that names them must not be.

Bohdan Triapitsyn a5aa32446d feat(browser): replace the preview proxy with a real browser panel and an agent web tool (#2883)
The preview panel worked by proxying a dev server through OpenChamber's own
origin and rewriting the HTML that came back. Anything the rewriter did not
anticipate broke, and pages that refuse to be embedded never loaded at all.
This deletes the proxy (-1604 lines and its tests) and merges the preview and
browser panels into one surface backed by a real Chromium view.

What the panel is now

- A `<webview>` in its own session partition: logins and cookies persist, hot
  reload works because nothing is rewritten, DevTools are one click away.
- Annotation: pick one element, drag a region, or draw freehand, write a note,
  and it reaches chat with a screenshot of the visible page with the marks on it.
- Toolbar: hard reload, page zoom, device sizes, a light/dark switch that
  applies to the page rather than the app, and cookie/cache clearing scoped to
  the panel alone.
- Several pages at once, each tab showing the page's own favicon, and an address
  bar that suggests pages already visited in this project.
- Dev servers are listed from what is actually listening on the machine, checked
  against what a project announced, so a server is offered no matter how it was
  started. One that is still starting is waited for instead of failing.

Remote dev servers

The desktop app binds a local port and pipes raw bytes to the OpenChamber host
over the existing authenticated connection, so the page keeps its own origin at
the root of its own host. The reachable set is exactly what discovery reports
and is re-checked per connection, so an authenticated client cannot dial
arbitrary local services on the host. Links and redirects to another loopback
port stay on the machine that served the page. A tunnel that cannot be opened is
reported; it is never replaced by the plain loopback URL, which would answer
from the user's own machine under a remote address.

Agent control

Browser actions are a separate `openchamber_web` tool: open, snapshot, click,
type, scroll, inspect computed styles, resize between mobile/tablet/desktop, and
capture a screenshot into `.openchamber/screenshots/` in the project. The
existing `openchamber` tool keeps sessions, worktrees and scheduled tasks. Each
has its own setting in the new Settings -> General -> OpenChamber Tools section,
and the plugin is not injected at all when both are off.

Capability belongs to the connected client, not to configuration: a client
declares on its event stream that it can drive a page, which only a Chromium
host does. Exactly one client performs each request — it claims the request
before acting, and the first claim wins — because deciding by whose result
arrives first would be too late for a click that already happened. No client
listening is answered immediately with an explanation rather than a timeout.

Runtime boundaries

Web tabs get a plain iframe that can display a page but not inspect one. The
VS Code extension no longer offers the surface at all, since nothing that makes
the panel worth having works there. Mobile is unaffected.

Native boundary

Camera, microphone, location and device-picker requests from panel pages are
denied — Electron grants them by default when no handler is set, and the panel
loads whatever address the user types. Page capture, appearance emulation and
storage clearing verify that their target belongs to the panel's own session
instead of trusting a web-contents id from the renderer.

Persisted state

Stored `preview` tabs migrate to `browser` (v13 -> v14). Context panel tab
limits are now per surface, so filling one surface no longer evicts another's
tabs. Address history is stored per project and per runtime.

Documentation

`preview.mdx` and `desktop-browser.mdx` rewritten across all locales, the agent
tool settings path corrected, new `DOCUMENTATION.md` for the browser-control
broker and the dev tunnel, and the `ui-api-decoupling` skill updated where it
still described the deleted proxy.

Serhii Dziupin 61533ed881 fix(desktop): keep minimize on the taskbar and send only close to the tray (#2874)
With tray background mode on, the in-app minimize button hid the window,
so the taskbar entry disappeared while the native title-bar and taskbar
minimize still performed a normal minimize. Minimize now always minimizes;
the setting gates the close path only.

The persisted key stays `desktopMinimizeToTrayEnabled` so existing settings
keep working; the visible label becomes "Close to the system tray" in every
locale.

Bohdan Triapitsyn f4743ea060 feat(chat): work-status panel, and MCP auth and settings fixes (#2776)
Adds a work-status panel beside the transcript. Context fill, model and
cost, todos, running subagents and the permission requests blocking
them, branch and working-tree state, MCP servers, pinned messages and
context sources were scattered across the header, the composer and the
context panel — a blocked subagent was reported nowhere at all. The
panel reads them from live channels rather than persisted history, and
becomes an overlay where the chat is too narrow to seat a column.

It is on by default, including for existing installs. Because it now
carries these readouts, the desktop header and composer drop the ones it
duplicates: todo and changed-files chips, usage and MCP tabs. VS Code
and mobile keep theirs — neither hosts the panel.

Fixes MCP authorization, which was broken from the panel, invalidated by
a directory switch through a redirect URI that encoded the working
directory, and left the desktop app in the background because browsers
will not follow a custom-protocol link without a user gesture. The
settings page no longer asks the user to understand the MCP spec before
adding a server: one field takes the command or the link, with the kind
inferred and a visible override, and client-registration fields appear
only when a server actually asks for its own credentials.

Also: skills load from the panel instead of only when the composer's
slash autocomplete opens; the header button names the current instance
rather than falling through to the word "Instance" for relay hosts.

Three new optional UI settings keys, all migrated. No change to stored
MCP server configuration.

bun-pty merges the OS environ into PTY children, so deleting ARGV0 from the
JS env object alone left the AppImage path in the shell. Wrap Linux PTY
spawns with env -u ARGV0, clear native ARGV0 under Bun via libc unsetenv,
and always clear process.env even when no login-shell snapshot exists.

AppImage exports ARGV0 into the process environment. zsh treats that as
argv[0] for every external command, which broke Python venv detection in
the integrated terminal and managed OpenCode sessions.

Clear ARGV0 in Electron before login-shell probing, refuse to re-apply it
from shell snapshots, and strip it from terminal PTY and managed OpenCode
launch environments.

Opening the first session after app start waited seconds for its message
fetch. Three independent contributors, each measured via CDP network
capture and Chromium net-log against the packaged desktop app:

- The active-session watchdog fired an uncapped per-directory status poll
  and child-session discovery burst at startup, and other subsystems
  (git checks, global session pages, command/skill discovery) fanned out
  alongside it, saturating the browser's ~6 HTTP/1.1 sockets per origin.
  Add a shared background-network gate (concurrency 3) and route the
  watchdog, poll-shaped git reads (also priority: low), global session
  pages, command/skill loads, and the background update check through it.

- The packaged renderer is cross-origin to the loopback backend, so every
  API call needs a CORS preflight; a few slow OpenCode-proxied requests
  held the whole pool while preflights and interactive traffic queued
  behind them. Lift Chromium's per-host connection cap for loopback via
  ignore-connections-limit in the Electron shell.

- OpenCode initializes each directory lazily on its first request, so the
  first click paid that cost interactively. Warm the last-used directory
  and the three most recently opened projects right after OpenCode
  readiness, sequentially and best-effort, overlapping UI startup.

Validation: new background-network tests, lifecycle warmup test, focused
store/sync tests, UI type-check and lint, dead-code report, node --check
plus electron type-check/lint, and CDP first-open measurements on the
packaged app (message fetch socket queue 5.4s -> 0.03s).

Windows ARM64 native opencode.exe fails with a Bun FFI/TinyCC dlopen
error (anomalyco/opencode#19130). As a temporary workaround:

- Bundle x64-baseline OpenCode CLI on ARM64 instead of native ARM64
  (prepare-opencode-cli.mjs, env-runtime.js)
- Disable OpenCode self-upgrade on ARM64 in server, VS Code, and UI
  (upgrade-capability.js, opencode-upgrade-runtime.ts, useUIStore.ts,
  OpenCodeCliSettings.tsx, search.ts, SettingsView.tsx, platform.ts)
- Add ARM64 Windows cross-compile builds to release and smoke workflows
  (release.yml, release-desktop-smoke.yml)
- Refactor Windows latest.yml to use combine-electron-manifests pattern
  matching macOS, since two arches now produce per-arch manifests

The CI ARM64 build itself is permanent; only the x64-baseline CLI
bundling and upgrade disablement are temporary and should be reverted
when the upstream issue is resolved.

Fix remote Desktop runtime bootstrapping across context-panel session chats, additional windows, and host switches.\n\n- Bootstrap embedded session-chat frames through a same-origin parent handshake that supplies the active endpoint, bearer token, runtime headers, local origin, and a credential-free relay descriptor.\n- Keep relay pairing grants out of iframe state and explicitly rebind the SDK after embedded bootstrap or relay restoration.\n- Preserve each additional and Mini Chat window's own init script instead of overwriting it when the main window's host configuration changes.\n- Replace direct iframe global calls with same-origin postMessage synchronization for theme, chat settings, and visibility.\n\nHarden Desktop host authentication and probing.\n\n- Bind password, passkey, session-status, and token-persistence completions to the runtime identity that started them, so a late result cannot alter a newly selected host.\n- Cancel active passkey operations and reset transient auth UI state on endpoint changes.\n- Verify stored client authentication via /auth/session for direct and relay host probes, distinguishing reachable hosts from hosts that require re-authentication.\n- Bound every relay probe request with an aborting timeout so a stalled auth request cannot hang refresh or host switching.\n\nAdd regression coverage for the embedded bootstrap handshake, credential-free relay descriptor exposure, runtime configuration, stale password completion after an A-to-B switch, and SDK errors that carry a zero response status.\n\nAlso preserve SDK response status on session-message loader errors so callers can distinguish transport and server failures.

Bohdan Triapitsyn a0caec0984 feat(desktop): support remote-only startup
Allow Desktop to skip its in-process OpenChamber server with OPENCHAMBER_SKIP_LOCAL_SERVER=1 while continuing to load the packaged UI shell.

Carry local runtime availability through the boot contract so unavailable or unconfigured remotes enter a remote-only chooser instead of offering broken local recovery actions. The chooser can select saved instances, add a server by URL, or redeem an OpenChamber pairing link over direct or E2EE relay transports.

Keep additional windows, Mini Chat, background startup, and unreachable-host recovery functional without a local origin. Render boot and recovery surfaces with the active theme background rather than exposing the native vibrancy backing.

Document the environment variable and cover serverless boot routing plus malformed pairing imports with focused tests.

Linux AppImages were created without native WM decorations and without
in-app controls, leaving users unable to close the window with a mouse.

Treat Linux like Windows: frameless BrowserWindow plus the existing
WindowsWindowControls header buttons and app-menu entry. macOS keeps
hidden title bar with traffic lights unchanged.

Shared usesFramelessElectronChrome() helper drives main window, mini
chat, header insets, and titlebar controls.

Bohdan Triapitsyn afb368e11b feat: connection candidates refresh + relay identity hardening
Candidates refresh (server + mobile + desktop clients):
- GET /api/client-auth/connection/candidates returns the server's current
  LAN URLs, relay candidate, and serverId for already-paired devices
- /health and /api/version expose serverId so clients can verify a learned
  address belongs to the expected server before sending their bearer token
- mobile: refresh saved candidates over the live transport after every
  connect/wake, hot-switch relay->LAN when a fresh address is reachable;
  serverId gate on direct probes; token no longer sent to /health
- desktop: refresh stored host apiUrl after a relay connect and hot-switch
  back to direct; electron probe verifies serverId before authenticated fetch

Fixes found while debugging a dead pairing:
- settings: strict reader that throws on corrupt/unreadable file instead of
  returning {}; relay signing/encryption key generation is now gated on it,
  so a swallowed read failure can no longer mint a new server identity and
  orphan every paired device (loud log when a keypair IS generated)
- SessionAuthGate: bounded auto-retry for transient session-check failures
  (initial request racing the relay tunnel's first WS attempt, startup 5xx)

achcyano 4296efb64d feat(electron): add Windows startup and system tray support (#2112)
Add Windows launch-at-login with background startup support and extend the
native tray integration to Windows.

Add a Windows-only setting to minimize or close the main window to the
system tray, persist it through desktop settings, and expose it in Settings
search and all locale dictionaries.

Keep tray state synchronized with live sessions on both macOS and Windows,
while preserving the existing macOS behavior.

Bohdan Triapitsyn 51e6ae7e3f feat(desktop): multi-transport hosts with relay fallback, card-style services dropdown
- A saved host now keeps every transport its pairing link carried: direct URL
  plus the relay descriptor, with one token for both (the mobile connection
  model). Switching tries the direct leg and falls back to the E2EE tunnel;
  list probes report Connected · Relay when only the tunnel reaches the host;
  relaunch restore picks direct first
- Host switching trusts the dropdown's fresh probe instead of re-probing on
  click (no doubled latency, no transient Unreachable flashes); statuses are
  written once with the final outcome, survive the dropdown closing via a
  last-known cache, and an unprobed host reads Checking — never Unknown
- Open-in-new-window works for relay hosts: a new IPC command boots the local
  UI with the host id injected and the renderer picks the transport; the app
  render holds on the relay restore so the splash shows instead of a transient
  auth screen (10s safety valve)
- Relay host control socket gained protocol-level keepalive: a missed pong
  window terminates and reconnects, so the relay can no longer hold a ghost
  registration that leaves every client tunnel hanging; the desktop relay
  probe also hard-times-out at 8s instead of hanging status flows
- Services dropdown restyled with mobile-style cards: per-provider usage
  cards, per-host instance cards with a selected highlight and a toned
  status line, MCP servers grouped in a card

Iuliia Ivashko 91a95bfdaa feat: pairing v2 — one-tap trusted devices over LAN and private relay (#2103)
Reworks how devices connect to an OpenChamber server, end to end.

Pairing v2:
- One-time pairing links/QR codes (openchamber://connect?v=2) carrying a set of transport candidates (LAN/tunnel/relay) and a single-use secret redeemed server-side; no tokens embedded in links
- Add-a-device dialog written for first-time users: intent-based transport choice (Anywhere / Home network only / This computer only) with plain-language descriptions, transparent fallback checkboxes, server-authoritative LAN detection, high-res QR dialog
- Private relay folded into pairing as a transport candidate with a demand-driven lifecycle (enables when a relay device is paired, disables when none remain)

Multi-transport devices:
- A saved device holds all its transports and one token; mobile re-probes on connect, resume, and network change and hot-switches LAN<->relay seamlessly (no re-pairing, no remount, session preserved)
- Desktop can import relay pairing links, switch to relay hosts through the E2EE tunnel, and restore a relay default host after relaunch

Device management:
- Device list (web + desktop) shows live per-device connectivity with the active transport (Connected - Local network / Relay) and platform badges (iOS/Android/macOS/Windows/Linux)
- One physical device = one record: stable per-install dedupe keys across pairing and password re-login; typed pairing label names the device, paired devices name the connection by the issuing server hostname
- Trusted desktop-local client manages all devices (list, revoke, clear revoked); relay host reaps dead client sockets after 3 missed keepalives

Android:
- LAN transport unblocked (cleartext + mixed content, mirroring iOS ATS exceptions); resume re-probe retries through network flux and silently auto-reconnects from a disconnected state

Bohdan Triapitsyn 0820778763 fix(desktop): recognize the LAN-bound local server when tagging client tokens
The client-create gate added in 1.13.9 rejects client tokens without the
desktop-local kind, but the kind was only attached when the runtime
origin exactly matched the injected local origin — an empty (same-origin)
api base, loopback aliases, and the embedded server addressed via a LAN
interface (0.0.0.0 binds) all minted untagged tokens, which then hit 403
and surfaced as "Local — Auth required" plus the unreachable-server
screen. The renderer now treats same-origin and loopback targets as
local, the Electron main additionally matches any of the machine's own
interface addresses on the local server's port, and a deduped kind-tagged
mint migrates away legacy same-label tokens that predate client kinds.
The client-create gate itself is unchanged.

Bohdan Triapitsyn 84d7303346 feat(desktop): add macOS dock badge for chats with unseen activity
Show a count of chats (root sessions) with unseen activity on the macOS
dock icon. The count is computed in the existing tray snapshot (full
cross-project list, not the capped tray view; a subtask's unseen rolls up
to its root only when subtask notifications are enabled) and pushed to the
main process over the existing desktop_tray_update IPC, which calls
app.setBadgeCount (0 clears it). The badge clears as sessions are marked
seen on window focus.

Add a Dock badge toggle in Appearance settings (default on, persisted,
darwin desktop only), localized across all dictionaries, with a matching
settings-search entry whose availability mirrors the render guard exactly.

Bohdan Triapitsyn 2ff5428c69 feat(opencode): never leave orphaned OpenCode server processes
OpenChamber spawns the OpenCode server as an external child binary (detached
on Unix), so a hard crash, SIGKILL, or Ctrl+C of the host before graceful
teardown could leave it running. Orphaned servers then accumulate and contend
on the shared SQLite DB, causing severe startup slowdowns.

Add a per-process registry plus a startup reaper, mirroring the pattern
OpenCode's own CLI daemon uses for its detached server:

- One file per spawned process at
  ~/.config/openchamber/managed-opencode/<pid>.json. Per-process files avoid
  the read-modify-write clobber race between concurrent runtimes/windows that a
  single shared file would suffer.
- On spawn, record the child (pid, owner pid, port, binary, host runtime).
- On graceful close/restart, delete the record.
- On startup, reap only our own, verified, genuinely-orphaned processes:
  recorded by us AND still a live `opencode serve` on the recorded port AND
  whose spawner is provably gone (reparented to pid 1, or recorded owner dead).
  It never touches a process a live instance is using, the user's standalone
  server, the official desktop app, or the TUI.

Wire it into every runtime that spawns the server:

- web/desktop via the OpenCode lifecycle (register on spawn, unregister on
  close/restart, reap at startup). The restart-for-config-change flow inherits
  this automatically through the same kill/spawn paths.
- VS Code carries a parity implementation (it does not bundle the web package)
  that reads/writes the same registry directory and uses the same algorithm.
- Tag the actual host runtime (desktop/web/ssh-remote/vscode) for observability.

Also tighten teardown so the registry stays accurate and orphans die promptly
instead of only on the next start:

- The web server now also handles SIGHUP and SIGUSR2 (terminal close and the
  nodemon restart used by dev:server:watch / dev:web:hmr).
- Electron now installs SIGINT/SIGTERM/SIGHUP handlers that run the same
  background teardown as a normal quit, covering Ctrl+C on electron:dev.

External OpenCode servers (OPENCODE_SKIP_START) are intentionally excluded: we
never manage or kill processes we did not spawn.

Bohdan Triapitsyn 9f06224151 fix: authenticate event-stream WebSocket before connecting
The global event-stream WebSocket opened before a valid oc_url_token was
minted, so the upgrade failed auth ("no valid credentials available") in
packaged builds with a UI password. The resulting reconnect storm churned
the sync store and made session status flicker busy<->idle. Await the URL
auth token before connecting (a WS upgrade can't send a bearer header like
SSE does) and drop a rejected token on pre-ready close so the next attempt
re-mints a fresh one.

Also harden /session/status reconciliation: the watchdog poll is now
monotonic (only confirms/raises active status, never blindly lowers a
busy/retry session to idle on a transient or misscoped snapshot). Idle is
applied only by the authoritative reconnect/escalation resync, which trusts
the live server snapshot as the source of truth. Add a Help -> Toggle
Developer Tools menu item so production builds can open the console.
