Review follow-up:
- Reject loop files whose frontmatter name exceeds MAX_TASK_NAME_LENGTH
(80): task names are clamped at storage time, so a raw name longer than
the limit could never match the stored task identity. The file is treated
as malformed (definition: null) instead of creating an unreachable
definition; MAX_TASK_NAME_LENGTH is now exported from project-config.js
and shared with loops.js.
- Surface loop-sourced tasks in the scheduled-tasks dialog: tasks carrying
loopFile show a 'Managed by loop file <path>' note, and the enable
toggle / edit / delete actions are disabled with an explanatory tooltip,
since the file remains authoritative and would revert any such change.
run-now stays available. New locale keys added to all 11 message files
(i18n parity test enforces exact key sets).
- ScheduledTask type gains an optional loopFile field (additive, unknown
to older clients).
Review fixes for the markdown loop feature:
- Loop-owned tasks now adopt by loop file path, not task name, so renaming
a loop (frontmatter name or UI rename) renames the task in place instead
of leaving a stale duplicate that keeps running the old definition;
orphan duplicates of the same file are unscheduled.
- Unparseable loop files are reported to the scheduler as
definition:null entries: a task whose file still exists is kept with its
last good definition, and only a genuinely removed file unschedules it.
Transiently malformed files (mid-edit, bad merge) no longer delete tasks
or their runtime state.
- Adoption preserves UI-only execution fields (goalEnabled, goalTokenBudget,
permissionAutoAccept, variant) that the portable format does not define.
- DELETE on a loop-sourced task now returns 400 with guidance to remove the
loop file, instead of being silently undone by the next reconcile.
- Loops default to enabled: false; discovery of repository content never
auto-executes scheduled sessions unless the file explicitly enables them.
Regression tests for each fix; DOCUMENTATION.md updated.
Adds markdown-based scheduled-task definitions ("loops") discovered from
.agents/loops/*.md (project scope, ancestor directories up to the
worktree root) and ~/.agents/loops/*.md (user scope), mirroring the
skills discovery pattern.
File format: YAML frontmatter (name, schedule cron, enabled, model as
provider/model, optional agent/timezone) plus the markdown body as the
execution prompt. Discovery and parsing live in
scheduled-tasks/loops.js; project-config gains reconcileLoopTasks which
runs inside the project write lock on every syncProject:
- identity by task name; a loop takes over a matching task, preserving
its id and runtime state (markdown wins on conflict with JSON)
- tasks whose loopFile is gone are unscheduled; JSON tasks are never
removed
- new loops are created under deterministic loop:<scope>:<name> ids
- project scope shadows user scope on name collisions
- malformed files are skipped with a warning and never block valid ones
Runtime state stays in the project config/state store; it is never
written to the markdown files. Module documentation updated with the
file format and reconciliation rules.
Fixes#2583
Arm the target button in the composer and the next prompt becomes a goal:
the server keeps the session working toward it (idle tick -> small-model
audit -> continuation) until the objective is verifiably complete, blocked,
or out of budget — even with the UI closed.
Server (packages/web/server/lib/session-goal):
- event-driven loop on the global SSE hub; goal state lives in
session.metadata.openchamber.goal (merge-safe patches, stale-write guard
by goal id), so it survives restarts and syncs to every client for free
- the small-model audit (objective + last assistant turn only, language
pinned to the objective) is the sole termination authority; blocked needs
3 consecutive verdicts, audit outages tolerate one unaudited continuation
then stop the goal as resumable-blocked
- hard stops: optional token budget, auto-continuation cap (Resume grants a
fresh allowance), turn errors; user abort pauses the goal instead of
blocking it, and resuming over an aborted tail nudges immediately
- token accounting as a snapshot of the latest turn (input + cache.read +
output), goal-relative via a creation baseline and segmented across
compactions; a compaction summary skips the audit and continues
- continuations reuse the session's own provider/model/agent/variant
UI:
- three-mode target button (arm / disarm / manage dialog), informational
goal strip with inline pause/resume and an Evaluating indicator, sidebar
state glyph, objective length counter (2000-char server clamp),
read-only completed goals
- goal entry points: composer (sessions and drafts), start-new-session-
from-answer dialog, plan implement dialog (plan content becomes the
objective), scheduled tasks (Run as goal + budget)
- Settings -> Chat -> Goal: feature toggle + default token budget with
three-layer parity (web server, client persistence, VS Code bridge);
VS Code renders goal state but hides the entry points (the loop runs in
the web server only)
Notifications: per-turn "ready" notifications are suppressed while a goal
is active; settling sends one final notification (desktop, web-push, APNs
generic titles with the session name as body) honoring the completion
toggle. Error/question/permission notifications are untouched.
Docs: user guide (session-goals) in all 9 locales + sidebar entry,
scheduled-tasks cross-reference, server module DOCUMENTATION.md.
Derive project.id from project.path (path_<base64url(path)>), shared helper on
both server (lib/projects/project-id.js) and client (lib/projectId.ts). Replace
random UUIDs so icons, notes, todos, actions, setup-worktree, plans and
scheduledTasks share one id across restarts and reinstalls.
Fix read-then-overwrite clobber in project-config.js: scheduled-task writes now
merge with the existing project json instead of replacing it, preserving
client-written fields that live in the same file.
On settings load migrate legacy UUID ids to canonical path ids, moving config
json, storage dir contents and icon files, and remap activeProjectId. Scan for
orphan non-path_* project configs and merge them into the canonical project
when a \$ROOT_PROJECT_PATH/<file> reference resolves on disk, logging any that
can't be matched.
Client openchamberConfig.writeOpenChamberConfig re-asserts server-owned keys
(version, scheduledTasks) on write to defeat the symmetric race. Stores and
persistence derive ids from path consistently.
